Telehealth - What to know

You have been scheduled for a Telehealth (virtual) Visit with Dr. Jim On at Malama Dermatology, LLC.

By proceeding with the Telehealth Encounter, you are consenting to the terms included in our Telehealth Consent section below.

How to use Doximity and What to Expect

  • Determine if your phone can receive a video call (requires smart phone with camera, ability to receive and open texts, needs wi-fi or cellular data connection)
  • Expect a text message from the provider at the time of your appointment.
  • The provider will login to Doximity and send a text to your mobile device using the application. This starts the video call, and the provider waits for you to join.
  • The text message you receive will not be from a familiar number. When opened, the following message appears (English): “Hello, this is Dr. Shelbi Jim On– please join me for a secure video call”.
  • Above the message is a link that you will click to join the video call. This is followed by three (3) other screens that where the patient needs to touch. All are in English:

a.) A blue link that says “Allow camera and microphone access”
b.) Another screen where the you need to touch “Allow”
c.) A final screen with a small window where you will see yourself on video, and a green link that says “Join video call” which begins the call.

  • The provider will wait for you to follow the steps below to join.

If you have an upcoming telehealth appointment, follow these tips to ensure a successful visit. By preparing in advance, you can maximize the time with your dermatology provider, making sure all your concerns are addressed. Proper preparation also helps in providing accurate information, which is essential for a reliable diagnosis and effective treatment plan.

    Take Photos Ahead of Time

Please take photos of the areas of interest ahead of time. You can email them to us at [email protected] or text them to us at 808-940-0961. Try to send the photos at least one hour before your scheduled visit so we have time to add them to your medical record. Often, photos will be of higher quality than those from the video camera.

      Find the Best Location

It’s important to take your virtual appointment somewhere you and your dermatologist can communicate effectively. Set up for the visit in a well-lit room with minimal noise where you can openly talk about your condition.

        Practice Getting Online

Practice logging into the Doxy.me app (or whatever you’ve arranged for the visit) at least 30 minutes ahead of time. Make sure you’re able to operate the camera and microphone. If you have any problems, please call our office at 808-940-0961 so we can help you through.

Complete Sadio Portal Forms and Consents Prior to Your Visit (Required)

          • You will receive an Appointment Reminder Text to your mobile phone 4 days prior to your appointment.
          • Upon CONFIRMING your Reminder Text, you will be prompted to complete your Sadio Portal forms and consents prior to your visit.
          • On the day of your appointment, you will receive a text message notification in order to enter our virtual waiting room for your Telehealth Visit. Please note, by proceeding with this visit you are consenting to receive the Telehealth Visit invite via text message even if you declined our Text and Email Consent in the past.

          Insurance and Payment:

          • Credit card on file is required for all patients but is only utilized in the event of a patient refund, delinquent payment, no show or admin fee.
          • Payment is due at time of your appointment for services performed and may include co-pay, co-insurance &/or unmet deductible depending on your plan’s benefits. As a courtesy, we will attempt to verify your plan benefits, however, if your benefits cannot be verified, full payment based on a cost estimate is due at the time of service, and you will be refunded once your insurance has been processed.
            • Cash, check and credit cards are accepted.
          • Bring your ID and insurance card(s). We encourage you to call your insurance company to ensure we are in your network.
          • We are not in-network with patients with Medicaid as a primary or secondary insurance. However, we are happy to see Medicaid or out-of-network patients as self pay. Click here to see plans accepted.
          • HMO plans require an HMO referral &/or an authorization for your insurance to cover your visit. Please contact your primary care physician’s office. If not received, you may be subject to self-pay pricing at the time of your visit.
